Edington and Shapwick School is a small, independent, coeducational boarding and day school, for about 170 day and boarding pupils aged 8 years to 18 years.

Although an Independent school and a member of the Independent Schools Association the school is one of only a few schools to achieve the standards required by the Department for Education and Science to qualify for approval as a school for pupils with dyslexia or specific learning difficulties. It is also a category 'A' CreSTeD school offering a whole-school curriculum.

The school was founded by the late Colin Atkinson, C.B.E. in 1974 to provide

specifically for boys and girls whose education would otherwise be sabotaged by dyslexia and the school is recognised as a centre of excellence for the provision of Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy. In fact it is the only school in the entire country to be formally accredited by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists for the delivery of this service.
